Psychologist and long time resident of Spokane

Mark Mays is a psychologist and a long time resident of Spokane. He is married to Paula Dillon Mays, a physical therapist. Their children grew up in Spokane and graduated from Spokane high schools before going on to college. The Mays' enjoy living in an area close to Spokane surrounded by wheat fields and cattle breeders, with enough room to have horses. Dr. Mays enjoys spending time at home with his horse, Sturdy Jim, and his Golden Retriever, Moxie, as well as reading, listening to old time radio shows, and watching movies, particularly comedies. He has always been active in the community and active in his profession.


Full Time Health Care Provider

Mark has practiced as a psychologist, both in partnership with physicians and independently, and has treated Vietnam veterans and POWs as well as many hundreds of people, families and children dealing with a wide range of personal issues. Dr. Mays is on the staff at Sacred Heart Medical Center and Deaconess Hospital. He has consulted for the Kellogg Rural Health Project. As someone who deals on a daily basis with patients’ problems in gaining access to care, he understands the crisis in health care.


Served in the United States Air Force

Mark provided treatment to active duty and retired military and their families, including Prisoners of War. He consulted on the Prisoner of War Research Project at the U.S. Air Force Survival School at Fairchild Air Force Base. He treated many servicemen who had returned from combat in Vietnam.

Mark has used his legal training and his knowledge of law and the perspective this brings to allow him to better serve on professional, civic and educational boards. He has lectured at the Gonzaga School of Law for many years. Dr. Mays has given many public and professional presentations on legal matters as they relate to health care, privacy and issues of individual liberties. He has written articles to help health care providers better deal with the world of legal complexity, and contributed much time to help non-profit organizations better navigate complicated legal issues.


Active in Education

Mark remained active in education after receiving his doctoral degree in psychology and law degree. In addition to teaching a variety of classes in psychology and lecturing at the Gonzaga School of Law, he has taught at the Gonzaga School of Business, currently serves as a Clinical Professor at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, and has served on the faculty of the Intercollegiate School of Nursing. Served as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Eastern Washington University

The Board of Trustees is appointed by the Governor and is responsible for selecting the President of the University and holding the University's President accountable for achieving the goals and policies the Board adopts. Eastern Washington University is a vital resource for Eastern Washington and a major employer in the area.
